Traditional Food

For as long as there have been people, there has been food. And, while food is a necessity to all people, a vast majority consider it to be a source of enjoyment, and find pleasure in nourishing their bodies.

Over the years, traditions have been established regarding food. A typical meal may consist of some kind of meat or fish, potatoes, a vegetable, and bread. Fruit can be a tasty dessert, possibly in combination, or in addition to, a baked treat.

There are a number of different ways of preparing traditional foods. Meat, for example, may be roasted, baked, or fried. Seasoning is optional and done to taste. Potatoes and other vegetables may be baked, boiled, mixed together, served separately, or, for that matter, even served raw. Interesting combinations may also be created with fruits. Fruit salads are simple to make and pleasing to the taste buds.

Baked goods are included in most traditional family menus, Cakes and pies are always well received, and are frequently given as gifts or tokens of gratitude and goodwill. People have also developed traditions in their bread consumption. White, whole wheat, and rye are the most common, with a growing trend to home baked.

In short, a diet of traditional food is limited only by the imagination of the cook and the tastes of the consumer.

Cooking from Culture to Culture

Often differences arise from what food is found in different parts of the world. Rarely will you find corn growing in Asia, but it is a staple in South American cooking. We who live near the oceans and lakes eat seafood, while those who live inland must import seafood, so the cost of cooking it may become prohibitive.

Traditional Ukrainian Food

Ukrainian cuisine has a very rich history and boasts a wide variety of special dishes. Ukrainian recipes show influence from Russia, Germany, Turkey, Poland, and Lithuania. "Soviet" cuisine, or dishes of several origins popular in the USSR, also influenced Ukrainian cooking.

The Simplicity of Cooking Italian

Italian diet is based on some very everyday food fare such as olive oil, pasta, vegetables, fruits, rice, bread, pizza, rice, fish, and some meat, but not too much. A great deal of herbs is used as well to make the dish extra tasteful.
